Birth Injuries Solicitors

Our specialist Birth Injury Solicitors assist families in pursuing birth injury claims for compensation arising from Medical Negligence during childbirth.

For expectant parents, giving birth is a time of considerable anticipation mixed with heightened nervousness.

While most babies are delivered safely, on occasion, injuries may arise which can have implications for the long-term health of the child or the mother. Should this occur, it is important to have the best support and information available to help you navigate the challenges ahead.

For over 35 years, the Medical Negligence Team at Lavelle Partners have developed a robust reputation across Ireland for providing caring and empathetic legal advice and representation to the families of those affected by birth injuries due to Medical Negligence. While we cannot completely remove the burden and worry from parents in this situation, we can seek a legal remedy on their behalf.

Newborn Baby Brain Damage

Newborn baby brain damage, also known as Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy ("HIE"), can be caused by lack of oxygen before, during or shortly after birth. HIE can result in death or significant long-term neurologic disability. While often this is unpreventable, sometimes this is caused by negligence by medical staff. In this case, it is often necessary to seek readdress.

HIE incidence is estimated as 1.5 per 1,000 live births.  While the symptoms of neonatal HIE vary from baby to baby, in severe cases a baby may experience delays in growth, cerebral palsy or mental disability.
